Children’s eye care
Gentle, child-friendly assessment and treatment of squint, lazy eye and children’s vision, with fellowship-trained paediatric ophthalmologist Miss Shivani Kasbekar.
Children’s eye care
Children’s eyes and vision are still developing, so problems are best picked up and treated early. Miss Kasbekar has fellowship training in paediatric ophthalmology and sees children in a gentle, reassuring and child-friendly way.
Conditions seen in children
- Squint (strabismus) — a turning eye
- Amblyopia (“lazy eye”) — reduced vision in one eye
- Refractive errors needing glasses
- Watery or sticky eyes
- Concerns raised at school or routine sight tests
Why early assessment matters
Because vision develops through childhood, conditions such as amblyopia respond best to early treatment. If you or your optometrist have any concerns about your child’s eyes, a timely specialist assessment is worthwhile.
What to expect at the appointment
Assessment is tailored to your child’s age and includes a check of vision, eye alignment and eye health, with an orthoptic assessment where needed. Everything is explained clearly to you and your child.
Common questions
At what age can children be seen?
Children of all ages can be assessed, including young children — the examination is adapted to suit their age and understanding.
What is a lazy eye?
Amblyopia, or “lazy eye”, is reduced vision in one eye because it did not develop normally in early childhood, often due to a squint or an uncorrected focusing difference. It is treatable, and early detection gives the best results.
